Preview \\ Netherlands festival ‘Le Guess Who?’ features world’s largest record fair and Spiritual Jazz legends.

Returning for its eleventh year, the Netherlands’ unique music and culture festival Le Guess Who? looks to be its most inimitable yet. Between 9-12 November, Utrecht will host an eclectic line-up across more than 20 venues, spanning Jazz, ambient, experience, punk and drone music.

Spiritual Jazz legends like Pharoah Sanders, Sun Ra Arkestra and German free-Jazz mainstay Peter Brotzmann will mingle with contemporary luminaries like Matana Roberts, Sudan Archives and Shabaka & and the Ancestors. Festival-goers will also be able to experience a revival of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda’s Ecstatic Music thanks to the Sai Anantam Ashram Singers.

Amongst the 100 plus performances, hip-hop explorers Shabazz Palaces will deliver their recent Quarzaz double album offering live. Montreal-based Jerusalem in My Heart will show audiences why they’re audiovisual pioneers, and Perfume Genius will play tunes from his fourth album No Shape.

Live performances are just one part of the festival; Le Guess Who? hosts the largest record store fair in the world. The Mini Guess Who? festival—focused entirely on local Dutch talent—will also be showcasing other arts projects such as the works of experimental film maker Paul Clipson. You’ll also be able to delve into The Black Power Tarot Cards project of unlikely trifecta Alejandro Jodorowsky, King Khan and Game of Thrones‘ designer Michael Eaton.
